New Flying Field Updates

The STILLWATER R/C FLYERS is in the process of obtaining the use of a new flying field. Through the hard work and foresight of Dr. Andy Arena, this new field is made possible. More details will be made available as they come to light. When this field is complete it will be THE premier flying field of north central Oklahoma.

The Glencoe Fire Department burned off the large brush piles for us today. Large, 6-year-old piles of dried out cedar trees make for spectacular fires. Click on the link here and you can see the pictures. If you click on the thumbnail of a picture, you can see it larger.

I thought you might want the site plan as well. I have attached it. It is amazing how much different things look in only a couple of days! The plan is to finish the excavation and buildings by the end of October. I suspect we will be done with the runway grading even before that, so maybe near the end of October we can get folks together to put down the mat. We are picking it up this Thursday.

Take care,
Andy

This is a heads-up regarding the installation of our new runway. Excavation and pad compaction for the buildings is complete, and they will be pouring the pads next week. The runway excavation should be complete by the end of next week also. We have the runway mat here at the DML, and we should have all the required staples next week, along with tools we have made to eliminate the need to bend over or squat down to install them. We estimate that it will take at least one complete day (dawn to dusk) to install the runway, taxiways, pilot stations, etc. We will need at least 25 volunteers to assist. I expect that we will try to schedule that day within the next 3-4 weeks, so I am just giving folks a heads-up now, since when we actually schedule it, the notice may be somewhat short. We have to do it on a day that is not raining, and the wind cannot be more than about 10mph.

Please spread the word.
Thanks
Andy
